The sign outside Skydive Plett in Plettenberg Bay says: “Experience the thrill of human flight over the most scenic drop zone in the world” At Amakaya Backpackers, we think that is a pretty accurate description. We know how beautiful Plettenberg Bay is: we have seen it from the ocean, we’ve seen it from the mountains and we have seen it from the beach. But nothing quite compares to seeing Plettenberg Bay from the air!

Skydive Plett is located at the small airport in Plettenberg Bay and offers tandem jumps (jumps with an instructor), meaning that you need no experience before you skydive. There is also an option to land either at the airfield or on Plett’s central beach (although this is weather dependent) and we would recommend trying the beach landing if you can!

As far as adventure and adrenalin activities in the Garden Route go, skydiving is most certainly close to the top of this list. What could be more thrilling than jumping out of a plane at 10 000 ft, feeling the air streaming past you as you hurtle towards the ground at 200km/h? Following this heart-thumping, blood-pumping free-fall is a gentle decent under parachute overlooking what must surely be one of the most beautiful drop zones in the world. The ocean looks so blue, the coastline jacked and hemmed by tiny white waves. From this perspective, the Tsitsikamma mountains in the distance seem to wrap circling arms around Plettenberg Bay and the sky seems never-ending. All this excitement and beauty wrapped in the package of the tandem skydive. The Skydive instructor does all the work, guides you through the air, pulls the parachute ripcord and directs the parachute back to land. It’s a thrilling adventure that you will never, ever forget and will surely want to repeat again!
