Plett MAD – is it as unusual as it sounds? Well, the Plett MAD Festival is a celebration of all things Music, Art & Drama – M.A.D. It’s actually quite clever. And this year’s programme is set to be a winner!
The highlight of the winter season, the Plett MAD festival is headlined by the second annual Plett Food Film Festival on 9-11 July – three delightful days of food and film pairings. The festival is hosted by South African actress Lika Berning and with presentations from the Food Network’s Reza “The Spice Prince” Mahammad, The Kitchen’s darling Karen Dudley and Murray Pienaar from Kyknet’s Koekedoor.
The films have been chosen to represent the emerging Plett Winelands and pairings with the award winning wine and bubbly of our region as with a Year in Burgundy and the Cheese Nun. There are also fun Hollywood films The Big Night and Disney’s Feast for mainstream entertainment for the whole family. The final evening of the Plett Food Film Festival features the highly praised The Lunchbox – preceded by a demonstration by celebrity chef Reza Mahammad and finished off with an Indian Feast. Every screening at the Plett Food Film Festival will serve a dish of compelling food and delicious film.
But this is just 3 days while the Plett MAD festival runs from 25 June to 11 July. The festival starts with the Plett Fringe Festival – capitalizing on the travels of South Africa’s favourite performers to the National Arts Festival including comedian Nik Rabinowitz.
The Big Fat Studio Party is a gallery experience running from 2-31 July with exquisite original art on sale for R100! While musically, Plett welcomes Elvis Blue for a perfomance on the 8th July at the White House and Red Tape Riot at the Indigo Bay Seafood & Music Festival.
