We’re not talking about markets with brightly coloured imported plastic items, we’re talking authentic markets in Plettenberg Bay: organic veggies, vegan treats, hand-made soaps and mosaics, fresh bread and aromatic potted herbs. Your stay in Plettenberg Bay wouldn’t be complete without (a) a picnic of selected local treats and (b) a beautiful scarf or linen towel souvenir to take home with you. Here’s our selection of Plett’s best markets for your browsing enjoyment…

MARKET ON MAIN

As the name suggests, Market on Main is wonderfully located in Plett’s Main Street, serving up a superb variety of cuisines and little shops. The market is frequented by locals for their morning coffee and by everyone, especially on a Friday night when the music is live and the vibe is awesome!

HARKERVILLE MARKET

For lovers of organic food and flea-market finds, the Saturday Harkerville Market is a must-visit. Set amongst the trees, just off the N2 towards Knysna, the Harkerville Market is best-known for excellent produce and their famous, delicious ‘bush breakfast, eaten al-fresco under the trees. However, you’ll also find a fine selection of crafts, paintings, potted plants, jewelry and more.

OLD NICK VILLAGE

Put aside some time to ramble through the Old Nick Village and the new Mungo Mill – there’s so much to see. Located along the N2 and originally build in 1880, the village has a long trading history, established gardens and a truly delightful selection of little shops – each with its own unique signature. Immerse yourself in beautiful textiles and clothing, be swept away by distinct fragrances and don’t, whatever you do, miss the chocolatiers!

OLD NICK’S MID-WEEK MARKET

What the Harkerville Market is to weekends, so Old Nick is to the weekday shopper. The Old Nick Mid-Week Organic Market is a ray of Wednesday sunshine for market shoppers with naturally grown fruit and veggies, ethically farmed meat and dairy products and tasty homemade treats. There’s also the entire regular village to explore, so Wednesdays visits are doubly worth it!

THE GLOBAL VILLAGE

Prepare to be delighted when you arrive at the Global Village from the mosaic-tiled parking space and cobbled walkway to the lakeside restaurant and never-ending rooms of items that are nothing short of treasures! We’ll let you discover these for yourself…
