FIVE FRESH THINGS TO TRY THIS SUMMER IN PLETTENBERG BAY

Plettenberg Bay is a small town that poses a bit of a problem for visitors: there’s so much to do and, possibly, so little time! Summer ramps up the options considerably with fine sporting and music events (including two international events: beach tennis and polo), making it difficult for even the most seasoned of Plett visitors to plan their time. However, if you’re looking some fresh, off-the-wall options for your summer vacation, give these a try this holiday…

GIANT ‘GOLIATH’ PADDLE-BOARD

Who knew stand-up paddling could be a group activity in quite this way? The giant ‘goliath’ paddle-board is available for rental via Learn to Surf Plett and there are more than enough waterways to keep you busy exploring, both calm and a bit more crazy….

GRAND AFRICA LOOKOUT BEACH

While we were sad to see the old Lookout Restaurant finish its time on the Lookout Beach, we’re so excited about new Grand Africa Lookout Beach. A sister of Main Street’s Grand Africa Rooms & Rendevouz and Cape Town’s Grand Africa Cafe & Beach, the Lookout is sure to draw a trendy crowd, year round for a glass of bubbly and one of the best views in Plett.

OVERNIGHT CAPE KAYAK CAMINO

If you’re craving a bit of solitude in the middle of season, why not consider an overnight kayak safari with Cape Kayak Camino?
The camino transits the entire Plettenberg Bay lagoon eco-system in two days of easy and safe paddling and one night’s comfortable camping enjoying traditional cuisine on the edge of the lagoon. Afterwards, you can get back to polo matches, surf sessions and sunset concerts!

HIKE ‘THE POINT’ AT NATURE’S VALLEY

It’s all about the view with this one. The Point at Nature’s Valley is the final point of the famous Otter Trail and, as such, has a reputation for some of the most gorgeous views in the region. It’s not a long hike, but it’s pretty much all uphill. On the way up, look out for a gully that is often filled with sharks at high tide – very cool. And give yourself enough time for a swim in the lagoon to cool off.

WATCH THE ONLY POLO PONY PARADE IN SOUTH AFRICA

The only parade of its kind in the country, the polo pony street parade is a much-anticipated event on the Plett Summer calendar. The Springbok polo players will be in the parade, along with everyone’s favourites: the dazzling thoroughbred polo ponies ridden by the young children that represent the future of South African polo. This procession of finely tuned animal athletes will be accompanied by banner holders, fans, flag bearers and a music truck. It’s an unmissable equine extravaganza!
