Take a deep breath, things are about to get real… Blue skies, green forest, crashing seas – the Garden Route is beautiful and natural and wild; adventures are everywhere. But, what if you’re looking to up the adventure factor to pure adrenaline? What if you’re craving the thrill of the rush, longing for the whoosh of air in your lungs and that sharpening of your senses as your body says: “Whow there, are you sure about this?”
As bikers, we know that feeling of flying down the road, where you’re quite still and the world is rushing past. And we can relate to your wanting to experience that adrenaline thrill in our beautiful natural surroundings, which truly are some of the best in world. So, without further ado, here are our top five adrenaline experiences in Plettenberg Bay:
Bloukrans Bungy: the highest commercial bridge bungy in the world.
At 216m, Bloukrans (which straddles the border of the Western and Eastern Cape) is the granddaddy of adrenaline activities on the Garden Route. Located less than 40km from Plettenberg Bay, some people feel faint just driving over the bridge. But we say: Jump. Just do it. You’re in for the jump of your life. Guaranteed to give you a major rush.

Skydive Plettenberg Bay
Long known as one of the most beautiful drop-zones in the world (just watch the clip below, if you’re skeptical), a skydive over Plettenberg Bay offers not only unsurpassed and rarely-seen views over Robberg and the ocean, but is sure to fulfill your need for thrills. Skydive Plett offers tandem jumps, meaning that you just show up with your courage intact and they’ll take care of the rest.
Swim with Seals
Swimming with the Cape Fur Seals in Plettenberg Bay is a magical experience. From the exciting “dolly” boat launch (a tractor pushes the inflatable boat into the sea from behind), to the exhilarating boat trip out to Robberg Peninsula, possibly encountering dolphins, whales and sharks along the way and, finally, the close encounters with the rapid-fire seals, adults and pups, as they torpedo through the water, agile and curious about the humans swimming among them. Unforgettable.
Afriabseil
One of Plettenberg Bay’s newest adrenaline offerings, Afriabseil offers a truly unique experience of the beautiful indigenous forest and dramatic topography of the surrounding area. Combining a rock climbing adventure across “The Fingers” to a sheer rock-face 50m above the forest floor, Afriabseil will leave you breathless. The best part? Anyone can do it. Afriabseil uses a “via ferrata” rock climbing system ensuring that climbers are attached to the rock at all times while they move out to the abseil point. This is one of the best activities in Plettenberg Bay for those wishing to flex their “adrenaline-junkie” muscles with a solid safety net. Arrive ready to feel like a “cliff-hanging” superhero!
Tsitsikamma Adventures “Canopy Tour”
The Tsitsikamma forest is a part of the Garden Route Biosphere Reserve and is located inside the Tsitsikamma National Park. The Canopy Tour was the first of its kind in Africa and offers you the chances to fly like a bird, 30m above the forest floor. You’ll encounter Hard Pear Trees, Giant Yellowwood Trees and magnificent Tree Ferns that are hundreds of years old. A dwarf among giants. When you step off that platform and zipline through the trees, you may feel like screaming, but don’t – you’re free as a bird!
