If it feels like there are limitless options for adventure and activities in Plettenberg Bay, that’s because it is nearly true! To spend just a couple of days in Plett is to show you just enough of what is special about the place before you move on to somewhere else. Plettenberg Bay is also a great base from which to explore the rest of the Garden Route. We’re very excited to share one of Plett’s newest adventures – AfriAbseil – a new rock-climbing and abseiling adventure in The Crags, just outside Plettenberg Bay.
Before you start imagining yourself clinging by your fingertips from a rock face – let’s reassure you – AfriAbseil uses a new system called via ferrata (Italian for “iron road”) and it means that you’re always connected by clips to a steel cable throughout your climbing adventure. The double system of clipping in and un-clipping provides added safety. The ladder-like rungs take the edge off climbing providing foot and hand holds and combined with the safety-line, the doors to the wonders of climbing are opened. The abseiling adventure is located in the magnificent Crags area – known for its beautiful crags, valleys and canyons. The climb takes you along a rocky outcrop to “the fingers” from which you then abseil down 50m to the forest floor.
If you are an experienced climber or a complete novice, you’ll feel thrilled to sit at the top of the fingers listening to the almost silent sounds of the forest, breathe in the crystal fresh air and soak up the golden sunlight – you’ll feel quite revived by this abseiling experience in Plettenberg Bay
