Plettenberg Bay has many beaches, rivers and a lagoon making it the ideal place for a spot of “supping”. Stand-up paddling or supping is an emerging sport with a cool Hawaiian heritage. Supping has spread from the ocean waves to nearly every body of water large enough and is not only a super way to explore a waterway, but also a pretty good workout too!

At Amayaka Backapckers, we are very excited about this adventurous new Plett activity offering. You can hop onto a “Sup” board and head out on a guided tour of the bay or the Keurbooms lagoon, hire a board for a bit of exploring or sign up for some lessons to get you comfortable before heading out.

Let your imagination wander as you paddle along the shoreline, with nothing but the sunshine, sea air and waves lapping at the board, only to have a pod of dolphins emerge around you. Although approaching marine animals is discouraged, divers, swimmers and paddlers are often treated to a visit from Plettenberg Bay’s resident dolphin families.

If you are looking for a bit more excitement, the SUP boards are great for catching a few waves and Plettenberg Bay’s Central Beach is popular with local SUP riders, especially when there is a large swell pushing through.

Supping or Stand-up Paddling is sure to be a huge hit in Plettenberg Bay and we can’t wait to try it out!
