So, South Africa has been in lockdown now for around three weeks, with another 17 still to go and, while we’ve been working where possible to help the community during this difficult time, there’s also a fair degree of dreaming going on as to what we will do when lockdown is over. Are you feeling it? That urge for the great outdoors and even greater adventure? Well, here are five things we can’t wait to do when the COVID-19 lockdown ends…

HAVE A BEER AT BARRINGTONS

As the first brewery located within Plettenberg Bay, and the ban on alcohol still in effect, we’re looking forward to sampling the offerings from recently opened Barrington’s, who have crafted four unique brews as a start, a Lager, a Weiss, an English Ale and an American Rye Ale. We’re also looking out for their seasonal brews! View tasting notes here:

TAKE A STROLL ALONG THE BEACH

So much choice, where to begin? As we’re sure you’re aware, Plettenberg Bay is home to six international Blue Flag beaches making us truly spoiled for choice. Should we spend sunrise on Robberg Beach searching for pansy shells or Lookout Beach where the dolphins often congregate, or maybe take a drive out to Keurboomstrand and Arch Rock for gorgeous sunset views? We’ll probably visit them all in turn!

TAKE A BIKE ROAD TRIP

Our road to Amakaya started with a motorbike trip and we’ve enjoyed exploring the region from Mossel Bay to Tsitsikamma, and inland, on two wheels during our years in Plett. The end of lockdown would be the perfect time to hit the highway for a day travelling the mountain passes for the Southern Cape.

HAVE A PICNIC ON ROBBERG

Robberg is, without a doubt, Plett’s best attribute. It’s a nature reserve, national monument and World Heritage Site with ties to the Cradle of Human Culture. It provide three superb hikes, sublime views and natural abundance and a chance to view whales, seals, dolphins and great white sharks from the cliffside. All-in-all, Robberg is a winner. One of our favourite evening traditions is to raid the fridge for snacks or pack a picnic, grab a bottle of Plett wine & head to Robberg for a sunset picnic. The picnic area is complete with benches and braais, so it’s the perfect place to end the day.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

And there it is… COVID-19 has made many of us rethink the way that we live our lives. Should we spend so much time in commute? Could we work from the road? Why have we never learned to surf, or skydive or abseil? Well, we’re going to try all the adventures in Plett that we never thought we’d have time for. Here’s a list that we’ve put together….Adventures in Plett

So, what are you doing after lockdown finishes?
