Welcome, 2022 and already a month into a new year! We have had a wonderful high summer season in Plettenberg Bay and, now, as February and March roll around and the South African schools start again, we move into – in our opinion – one of the best seasons in Plett: late summer.

Late summer means sunny, calm weather, long lazy days at the beach and sunsets on Robberg. All without the busyness of the high season – it really is the perfect time to visit, if you’re able. Almost all of the best things about Plett but without the queues or traffic ;)

Having said that, there really isn’t a bad time to visit. So, whether you’re planning a weekend away, marking the calendar for school-holiday events or looking to become a part-time digital nomad – here are a few dates worth making note of for 2022.

MTO TWILGHT TRAILS RUN 12 February 2022

It’s all about the night – the sounds, the nature, seeing a trail in a different “light”, not about the nightlife. Muddy Foot Adventures always puts on an excellent event and, together with MTO Trails, this should be no different. The trail starts and ends at Moss & Maple Farm Stall and offers two well-marked routes: 5km and 10km. Sweeps will ensure that no-one gets left out in the forest all night. For trail runners, this is an event not to be missed. Find out more or book a ticket here.

WATERCOURSE HISTORY FESTIVAL 23 – 25 February 2022

A fascinating story-telling journey for history buffs, curious people and other interested parties with a wonderful line-up of knowledgeable speakers. The festival covers topics along the theme of Crossing Borders and presentations will cover mainly South African history from the 17th through to the 21st century. View the programme & book tickets here.

LOVEFEST 21-24 April 2022

We don’t know much about this festival yet but it is to be celebration of the LGBTQ+ community to include Art & Culture, Comedy, Community, Dance, Family, Fashion, Film, Food & Beverage, Lifestyle, Music, Wine. Watch this page for more info as it comes in.

THE VAULT 18 June 2022

This is a chance for local artists to show what they can do! The Vault is a hip-hop/Amapiano event that will be held on the 18th June 2022 to celebrate National Youth Month. All local artists will be given a chance to perform, show their talent and build a fan base for themselves. The Vault event is here to give all the young kids who’ve never been given performance slots in local events an opportunity to show the community what they’ve got! Get your tickets here.

PLETT OCEAN FESTIVAL 24 June – 17 July 2022

The first Plett Ocean Festival is sure to be a smash hit. Who doesn’t love the ocean and beaches of Plettenberg Bay. Unsurprisingly, winter is an exceptional time to visit Plett if you love the ocean with clear, calm days, excellent scuba diving and snorkelling conditions (although wetsuits are needed) and it’s the start of epic Whale Season. If that isn’t enough, there will be interesting marine presentations, special offers and more. Watch this space.

PLETT ARTS FESTIVAL (October 2022) Date TBA

We know that the Plett ARTS Festival will be during the spring school holidays but dates are still to be confirmed. Look out for the fabulous Plett Food & Film, relaxed Plett Twilight Gallery Meander and performances at Piesang Valley Hall. Watch this space.

PLETT RAGE 2 – 8 December 2022

Plett Rage returns after a two year absence. We’re looking forward to welcoming our students back to Plettenberg Bay for their right-of-passage student festival, Plett Rage. Book tickets.

Events current at time of writing (February 2022), please check the Plett Tourism events page for additional events that may have been listed since then.
