NOTE – We offer a no contact check-in, private rooms with no sharing necessary with strangers in dorms.
As of 19 June 2020 we use a fogging machine to sanitise our rooms and communal areas after cleaning in an effort to control the spread of the Corona-19 virus. The sanitiser we use is chlorine and alcohol free, with no corrosive effects on usual materials. After use it simply degrades into harmless water and oxygen as one of the safest forms of disinfection.
We now have a TV with 7 channels (including satellite channels) in all private rooms and dorms. There are fridges in our Outeniqua, Tradouw, Homtini, Montagu, Kaaimans and Rooiberg rooms and in our Groot Rivier dorm.
We will make your stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible and help you with as much information as we can about the local activities and attractions. At Amakaya you can exchange experiences with fellow travellers (from a distance), and keep in touch with family and friends. Free wi-fi and internet facilities, coffee and tea in all rooms.
Amakaya Backpackers is a clean, friendly and homely place where you can relax after an exhilarating day in the area. We have hot showers (electric and gas), relaxed atmosphere, comfortable beds. Relax in our upstairs dining area or on the veranda and take in the view of the Tsitsikamma Mountains, the lagoon and the sea.
We are a 300m walk to the shops, restaurants and bars of Plettenberg Bay’s Main Street and 800m from the popular Central Beach (beware of the steep uphill walk back that will certainly build up an appetite and thirst!).
For the ‘private’ traveller or those who want some ‘me’ time, our range of double and twin private rooms is what you need. For those who do not mind sharing we have a selection of standard and en-suite dorms that sleep 2 guests in bunk beds, and 4 guests respectively in standard twin beds – no bunks.
Guests have the use of our fully-equipped kitchen facilities, outside braai (BBQ), free tea & coffee, wi-fi, and a sitting room to read or watch satellite TV. A vending machine has replaced our bar and also includes snacks.
Our rooms offer no contact check-in and check-out with no staff on the premises outside our reception hours of Monday-Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. After making payment, on your day of arrival, you will be sent an SMS with the gate code and key-box code allowing you to access your room.
When you leave, simply lock the room and leave the key in the key-box.
Parking is on the premises and is accessed by an electric gate.
A 50% deposit will secure your booking and the balance is payable prior to your arrival.
